When Someone Has Written It So Well : "On the Day I Die" - John Pavlovitz

Sometimes, what you are thinking or have thought has already been written down by someone else, perfectly. This is one occasion for me.  "On the day I die a lot will happen. A lot will change.  The world will be busy. On the day I die, all the important appointments I made will be left unattended.  The many plans I had yet to complete will remain forever undone. The calendar that ruled so many of my days will now be irrelevant to me. All the material things I so chased and guarded and treasured will be left in the hands of others to care for or to discard. The words of my critics which so burdened me will cease to sting or capture anymore. They will be unable to touch me. The arguments I believed I’d won here will not serve me or bring me any satisfaction or solace.  All my noisy incoming notifications and texts and calls will go unanswered. Their great urgency will be quieted.  My many nagging regrets will ...

Tuesday 25th July 2023

I could begin this by asking myself ... what should I write today ?  or, I have been meaning to write something for a while now - as has been the precursor to many of the posts on this blog, over the years.  But not today. Today it's my birthday and I have reached the official State Pension age (currently 66) and have given myself carte blanche to write whatever I feel like and whatever thoughts come into my head. Maybe someone other than me will read this, but if not, so be it. Having said that, this is not so different to any other things I have ever written , or are likely to write in the future. 😊 I have also given myself the full go ahead to use a smiley face/emoji which is not generally the done thing in a blog - but, you see, its my birthday and I'm a pensioner now. Here's another, just because I can 😀 I could write about the state of the country/world and the selfishness of society and governments or many other things. I could write that today I have written m...

Crossing Borders Sequel - Changing Lives : Preface

*Preface*                    "But what is happiness except the simple harmony between a man                                             and the life he leads? "                                                   Albert Camus     So what happened next? This is the question I have had from many people who have read “Crossing Borders” (my account of my meeting with my Palestinian husband) and of those who have l earned of the background of my husband and ste...

Betrayal of my Principles or Something Else : Vaccines and Guilt

In a couple of hours I, along with my 20 year old grandson, will be standing in line to receive our "vaccination" for Covid 19. He, because he had Non Hodgkinsons T Cell Lymophoma aged 2, and me because I am over 60 years old. Over the past year I , as well as millions of others have been thinking about one thing and  one thing only - Covid 19.  It has been very difficult not to think about it as news and developments of this Corona Virus gradually increased from snippets of news and anecdotal stories to full blown panic and what seemed to me to be hysteria and culminating on March 23rd 2020 as full blown "Lockdown - a term which I had previously associated with riots in US prisons. The media participation became almost manic along with the "Daily Briefings" from Government and the 3 word slogans which soon became  an essential part of our lives.  Weekly decrees announced the next round of restrictive "measures" which soon became "laws" to ...

Dear Diary - Mother's Day - 2020

I knew weeks ago that I ought to be keeping a daily diary on here or elsewhere of events, appointments, thoughts, feelings and opinions.  I knew way back in August when I purposely declined to buy a 2020 diary even as my daughter was purchasing a selection of these items in a range of sizes and styles. I merely flicked through the pages and returned the books to their display shelf, muttering "I'll not write in it".  I realise this is a shocking thing to say by someone who purports to "write" and my only excuse is that ... oh wait, I don't actually have an excuse. Needing to write things down has become imperative due to my increasingly decreasing ability to remember anything at all for longer than a few hours, let alone days and although this is not a recently acquired inability (see numerous posts on this blog on this theme over the past 12 years or so) it seems a lot more important in this unprecedented  situation, namely  the Corona Virus (Covid19...

For the Man Who ...

Image
Saw this on Facebook today and thought it also needed posting  For the Man Who  ... ... For the Woman Who ... by Brittany Latham F or the man who still leads from the front even although he’s lost inside. For the man who was fired for his fourth late because he has been awake for a straight week with a sick child. For the man who makes an "extra stop" after work every evening, to get something to make his woman smile. For the man who is mourning the loss of a pregnancy that nobody else knew about. For the single dad who doesn't know how the utilities are going to stay on this month. For the man who has gone through 2 IVF's and has tried for five years without success but still is happy for his friends whose women throw baby showers. For the man who still hasn't forgiven himself for the abortion for the abortion of his child 20 years ago. For the man who has a line of judging eyes on him and his children as he counts out coins...
